VERTIGO

Camera: Vera Hong
Stills: Vera Hong & Julia Charles; image 7 – video still
Stills of video installation: Silversalt, Yiorgos Zafiriou & Fiona McGregor

Endurance performance filmed on location on the cliffs at North Bondi, 11th June, 2009
Throughout one day, for an hour at a time, the artist lay on her stomach on the lip of the cliff watching waves crash against the rocks below. The performance was a confrontation with vertigo, as well as a portrayal of the coastline as boundary line, rather than oblivion.

Vertigo was the first performance in the ocean section of the Water Series. Its showing at MOP marked the Australian debut of this series of multi-disciplinary performances inspired by the fundamental substance of water. Water Series continued at Artspace in November 2011, where Vertigo screened as a multi-channel video installation.

Also shown/performed at Artspace were photographs from Tidal Walk, as well as three live works, each leaving trace installations.
